And it's starting to get cold out. I can't say that I'm a big fan of the cold. Well... I suppose I could say it, but I'd be lying. And that's not my thing.

It's almost New Years and that means it's time for resolutions. If you're into that sort of thing. And it seems like a lot of people are. I haven't made any yet. Maybe I should get on that. What are some of yours? I want to hear them. Let's see the goals for people in the new year.

The year... 2007.

Wow.

Hey everyone. Still trying to get the kinks out.

Although, I'm pretty much writing this to no one at the moment. And that's cool. Someday, lots of people will read this. But not right now. Someday. And they'll think, "Hey, Lamp's talking about me right now! I sure love Lamp!"

Once this site gets up and running, it'll be awesome. Until then... just relax. Have a drink. Make yourself at home.*

*If this site is already up and running at the time of your reading this, then disregard that last paragraph. Just go about your business enjoying the site and smiling and loving life.**

**
And if you're not loving life, we should talk because there's NO excuse for not loving life. Unless you just got your arms and legs bit off by a Great White or something. Then it's okay to be a little down.***

***This isn't to say that getting attacked by a shark is the only reason to feel down. There are plenty of reasons. I just don't want to list them all. And, the shark attack was the first thought that popped into my head. I don't know why. I don't think I'm afraid of sharks. Although, I've never met one. I suppose if I did, and it tried to attack me, I'd probably be afraid. But, you know me, I'd probably try and be it's friend first. I'd be like, "Shark, there's too much bloodshed in the world. You and I have to set aside our difference and be friends." Yeah... it'd go something like that...

Howdy.

I'm getting the hang of this blog thing. I'm going to try to write in this often, to keep you (and I) up to speed. I'll keep this short and sweet. Lamp loves you.

Greetings, friends.

Lamp is often being asked about changing the "top friends" on Lamp's MySpace profile, which is what prompted this blog. First of all, Lamp hates the idea of having to choose friends over others. Lamp loves you all equally. Well... almost equally. Right Megan?

Secondly, finding people on Lamp's friend list would take WAY too long, since Lamp just doesn't have the patience to sort through hundreds of pages of friends to rearrange things.

And finally, if Lamp were to change the top friends, how would Lamp go about choosing? Who would make the cut? People who keep in constant correspondence with Lamp? People who ask nicely? People who ask first? Too much to think about!!!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!! Too much pressure!!!!!

So Lamp has a better idea. And it's kind of fun. For everyone. Here's what Lamp is proposing:

If you want to get your picture and a link to your profile on Lamp's profile, then all you need to do is snap a picture of yourself showing your love for Lamp. If you have a shirt that proclaims your love, wear it and send a picture on over. Extra cool points if you're near a lamp, or hugging a lamp. There are three people thus far. How many more Lamp lovers are out there? Lamp wants to fill the profile full of pictures of people...

And should you not have a shirt, hugging a lamp would probably be enough to get you on there. Maybe hold a sign that says you love Lamp. Be creative.

Let's make this happen!!!!

1) Take the picture showing your love of Lamp (nothing dirty, please...)
2) Upload the picture to your profile.
3) Send Lamp a message.
4) Sit back and smile. Maybe have a cookie.
Also, the picture will show up in it's entirety on crazylittlethingcalledlamp.com/lamplovers.aspx
Here's the fine print:

* No "photoshopping." Apparently there are programs that allow you to doctor photos. Crazy, huh? Yeah... Lamp doesn't know much about them personally, but they sound shifty.

* If you don't want your profile linked to your picture, let Lamp know in the message you send. But why wouldn't you? There's no shame in loving Lamp!!!

* Void where prohibited, taxed or otherwise restricted by law.

Is it true?

Well, not exactly. Lamp isn't going to be rich and famous, and Lamp isn't going to relocate to the LA area. Lamp has no delusions of granduer whatsoever.

But, a couple of little movies have been made. Most people seem to like them. If you haven't seen them, you should check them out. They're relatively short, like 10 minutes and 8 minutes respectively.

Lamp won't say which one is better. That's like asking Lamp to choose a favorite child or a best friend or something. (Though, these movies aren't really Lamp's babies, but you get the metaphor)

They might not be laugh out loud funny, but the makers of the movie did portray the spirit of Lamp accurately. (In reality, Lamp has a pretty good grip on time zones.) At the very least they should make you smile.

So give em a try, and don't be afraid to leave a comment. And hey, tell your friends to give them a watch too. Maybe they'll like them.

Oh yeah, Lamp almost forgot...

Though this has only happened on a couple of occasions, Lamp would like to address the concerns of a few parents of children who are friends with Lamp.

Point ..1: Lamp has never requested to be your son/daughter's friend. Your child has made the decision to add Lamp.

Point ..2: Lamp doesn't "send messages" to any children on myspace. If someone sends Lamp a message, then Lamp will typically reply, unless the sender is being completely out of line, (or if Lamp is crazy busy and the message gets buried in the inbox. It happens, sorry.)

Point ..3: Lamp is not a creepy old man. Lamp is a LAMP. A lamp you'd buy at Ikea and have in your home next to your couch or TV. (One might argue that Lamp is merely a character created by someone behind the scenes of MySpace, but to admit to that would be like saying that Santa Claus doesn't exist. Isn't it more fun to believe that Lamp is really a lamp? We all know that there is no tooth fairy... but there's a magic in believing.

Point ..4:Lamp leaves a comment of "Lamp loves you," (or a variation of that) on virtually everyone's profile. It's what Lamp does. Lamp loves people. Lamp wants everyone to love everyone. If you had taken the time to look at Lamp's profile before reacting irrationally, you'd know that your worries have no merit. But no, people see a comment from someone and they immediately freak out. If you're so ontop of parenting your children, why the hell did you allow them to add Lamp in the first place? Riddle me that!

When the ..&@!! did love become a bad word in this country? Lamp's is probably the most nonoffensive profile on myspace. There's very little that should offend people, (save for the rants against children and their parents). Lamp serves one purpose: to make people happy. If even for just a brief second, if Lamp can make someone feel better, then mission accomplished. Lamp isn't here for personal gains or to "meet" people. Lamp loves everyone. Everyone!!! And if that's a crime, then Lamp is guilty. Why is it inappropriate to leave a comment that proclaims Lamp's MySpace love for someone? Ridiculous.

Now Lamp would like to make this a little more personal and address one specific message that Lamp just received:

Don't know who you are but don't send messages to my teenage daughter again or I will report you as a potential pedophile... Go love yourself.

This message offended and enraged happy little Lamp.

Let's break this down, shall we?

If she had taken the time to look at Lamp's profile, she could have very easily figured out "who Lamp was." Lamp is an entity, a persona, a character, much like Micky Mouse.

Lamp has no idea what she's talking about as far as "sending messages." Lamp doesn't do that. Lamp can only assume she's referring to a comment Lamp left, which most likely read: "Lamp loves you, _____."

Now... Lamp has NO IDEA who her daughter is, because she didn't bother to say. Lamp has nearly 10,000 friends. Who exactly is Lamp supposed to stop "sending messages" to?

A potential pedophile? Really?! On what grounds? Because Lamp tells people that Lamp loves you? That's quite a stretch. Lamp believes that this person is a total hypocrite, and Lamp will tell you why:

Explain to Lamp what the difference is between a grown man/woman in a Micky Mouse suit hugging your child and telling them that they love them... to Lamp leaving a comment on someone's myspace that tells them that they love them. Why is one acceptable in her view? Explain that.

Lamp would also like to point out that Lamp is an open book. You can look through all of the messages Lamp has ever sent/received, and you'll see that Lamp's intentions are honest and pure. Lamp has never/will never send an innappropriated message to a child/teenager. That's bullshit.

So let's review? It's okay to set your child on a stranger's lap, be it an old man in a red suit or a person in a bunny suit... but it's suddenly a crime for a lamp, (or god forbid someone pretending to be a lamp) to leave a comment of love on their profile. Your concern and threat are both way off base and unwarrented and frankly. Lamp is quite bothered by this and thinks you owe Lamp an apology.

So that's that. Lamp is done with explain Lamp's raison d'etre. If parents still object to a lamp loving their child, and their neighbor, and their mailman, and their local congressional representative, and their father, and them... then frankly, they can go right ahead and....

love themselves.
